Your reaction is a closure of a situation. What follows next will decide your mental state.
Every time there is a situation, you have various options to react. Always choose a response that guards your peace.
I totally agree and understand that we all tend to react out of instant bust of emotion where we are not in a state to choose our reactions to response.
No, not true!
Here I am to share with you some of the most powerful ways to turn your reactions into the response. I want you to have consistency in whatever you learn and practice because we all have grown up constantly learning different kind of behaviors from childhood to date, so to obtain a new behavior, you first need to understand and accept that it will take a little time to turn your impossibilities to possibilities.
So what is reacting and what is responding?
Let me share a story with for an example:
The other day I went to a cafe that had a bookstore in it to have my favorite ‘me-time’. I happened to meet one of my school mates. I felt good seeing her after a long time, however, she seemed like she didn’t like me approaching her to have a conversation.
If I felt offended and reacted to her ignorant behavior, I wouldn’t have made any difference. I smiled at her and said that I am sorry without any discussion or reaction and simply I walked towards my table to place an order of my very favorite brownie blend and picked a book to read.
I continued to stay super happy without giving someone the power to change how I feel. But yes, if I reacted to her cold shoulder behavior by saying something to offend her in return, I would carry the same mood and expression to my table.
I learned how my responsive behavior helped me to stay with myself and helped me to stay put with my joy inside. I would have messed up my good mood and time if I gave an unnecessary reaction in return.
In the same way, when someone you are close with show you an ignorant behavior, or provoke you to react, or for any other reason, learn to look at them as a different human being from you and understand that people have options to choose how they want to handle anything and everything.
You choose a different way instead of reacting or making things difficult. People don’t pick a peaceful choice. They let their ego and temporary emotional trigger take over instead of being wise to themselves.
Going forward, before reacting, choose to respond by keeping in mind these 4 thought-provoking points:
1.) Understand that how people behave is not in your control. Their behavior is their freedom.
2.) Learn to look at the person, or the situation from a distance (doing so you will understand what it looks like and you will respond more maturely).
3.) Remember you have options to choose from. Options to react, and options to respond.
4.) Make a difference by not reacting because that is exactly what they wanted. Choose to defuse others reactive nature without even paying much importance to them.
3 Ways you can rewire your mind to respond instantly:
1.) Meditation:
You can always depend on meditation for becoming a new you and to rewire your mind. Sitting in silence for at least 10mins a day will make you naturally a calm person, and could avoid getting into an unnecessary discussion so you will end up responding by talking to the point without reacting.
2.)Sit to rewire your mind:
When you meditate on a situation, you will set up an intention how to respond to a difficult situation way in advance.
This is because you are preparing yourself for the worst that could happen after putting forward your decision, judgment, or opinion. So how do we do that?
Sit, and bring the situation that could happen into your mind.
See the people involved and assume how they could react to the situation. Now without being triggered, choose a soft way to respond from the options you have: stay silent, try to explain softly, ask them why they feel what they are saying, or explain politely that you are not ready to prolong the discussion on it anymore.
Keep repeating the response in your mind focusing to keep your breathing normally. Repeat this response mentally till you feel that it has settled down naturally into your subconscious mind.
3.) Learn to look at the brighter side:
Always remember, whenever you come across such difficult people in your life who provoke you to react, look at those people like a test who are here to test how well you prepared yourself to respond instead of reacting.
